Court orders, while essential, cannot anticipate every parenting challenge that may arise over the course of a child’s upbringing. To address ongoing or unforeseen issues, the Court may appoint a Parent Coordinator—or parents may engage one voluntarily.
Parent coordination is a structured, collaborative process aimed at improving communication and cooperation between parents, particularly during or after separation or divorce. Its primary purpose is to reduce conflict, foster a stable and supportive environment for the children, and help parents reach agreements on key matters such as parenting schedules, education, healthcare, and day-to-day caregiving.
A Parent Coordinator can:
Encourage respectful and effective communication between parents
Work through barriers being faced in the Court orders to reach workable solutions
Minimise the need for repeated court involvement by resolving issues early
Promote consistency and stability in the child’s daily life
Prioritise the child’s best interests, ensuring their emotional and developmental needs are met
Parent Coordination is especially beneficial when conflict is persistent, communication is strained, or previous efforts to collaborate have been unsuccessful.
